SCP #45: Two Shades Of Blue

I delved into my experimental self for this piece, but unfortunately my audio recorder didn't pick up much of the water sounds.  I was pretty exhausted yesterday, and so I allocated myself a half hour window in which to get the piece done.

I used ink from the previous day as a starting theme, and a mind map led me to cobalt blue.  Some internet wandering brought up Renoir's painting The Umbrellas, which was painted using two different shades of blue: the first stages of the painting done using cobalt, and later stages with ultramarine.  This idea of an umbrella in two shades of blue inspired the text, and my kitchen provided the props.

In other news, I had a chat a few weeks ago with Ben Turner for his podcast Double Depresso. The episode has just gone online, and I highly recommend you check out the podcast, subscribe, and listen to all the old episodes, as Ben is having some really important and inspiring conversations with people about mental health in the arts.  You can listen to the latest episode here: https://omny.fm/shows/double-depresso-podcast/episode-17-erica-bramham

I also have a couple of gigs over the next few weeks if you're looking for something to fill an afternoon.  My vintage jazz band will be at the Knox Festival on March 5, and I'm playing some original tunes (including a few Song-chain songs) with Bitter Almond on March 11 at Open Studio in Northcote.
